Martha Tabis has been a fabric artist for 25 years. A lifelong love for animals has inspired her to create these quilts using raw-edge appliqué of cotton fabric and synthetics such as tulle, organza and satin for textural interest. They are embellished with colorful threads and yarns and can also include your pet's tags. If you look at Martha's blog she even shows you how to make a pattern for your pet's portrait.
I just love all the different colours and fabrics used!

Worthy Wednesday: Prudence and Leo from The Smiling Frog Pets

Let me introduce Prudence and Leo - the most adorable and entertaining little dogs that have us in stitches with their antics on Facebook. They proudly model their stylish clothes everyday, and quite rightly so, as they are all recycled and reused goodies... perfect for our Worthy Wednesday spot. So not wanting to steal their thunder, let the entertainment begin.

Pru: Hello Under the Blanket readers! My name is Prudence from the blog Of Cows' Tails and Chew Toys  I, along with my buddy Leo, have been asked by the wonderful Cate to do a guest post for Worthy Wednesday. You see, Leo and I are the models for an Etsy business called The Smiling Frog Pets  run by our mothers Ashley and Angelica. The Smiling Frog Pets sells dog clothes and toys for both cats and dogs out of as much recycled and thrifted materials as possible. Leo and I wanted to give you a peek into the places we go and the handmade things we wear as only two fabulously posh pups can.

Leo: Hello! I'm Leo, also a model. I enjoy gardening, fine foods, walks on the beach, shopping and am an all around Renaissance man. But enough about me (it's really all about me, shhhh). Check out a day in Pru and my life.

Pru: We usually start our day in the aisle of our local TJ Maxx. It's a store mostly for humans, but we're not shopping for clothes, we're shopping for attention. Right Leo?
Leo: TJs is my fave hangout. All of the employees know me by name. When I come in they yell "Leo!". I have no interest in clothing, I'm shopping for love. I do accept presents though.
Pru: As you can see, we have to have our own separate carts. Mom likes to say it's because our egos are so big, but the truth is Leo is too neurotic to have me in his cart.

Leo:You are a crazy woman, Pru, and you try to hog all of the attention. Yes, I have issues and phobias. My mom says it's because I'm a sensitive little man and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pru: After TJ Maxx, we usually have a clothing change.

My shirt is recycled from an old hoodie of my mothers that no longer fit properly.
Leo: This is my Easter shirt my mom whipped up for me Easter morning. It's made from a new tank top my mom got on sale. The hood features a heart tattoo applique. Mom says I look good in bright pink.
Pru: I must admit, Leo, you are quite fetching in pink.
Leo: Awe Pru, you are very pretty in pink too.
Pru: After we primp, it's off to a place where we both get equal attention; The Loyal Biscuit.

Leo: The Biscuit (as us pups call it) is where all of the cool pups in town hang out. Fenway, the store dog, is pretty cool too.
Pru: After shopping for some yummy treats and getting kisses from Heidi the shopkeeper, it's time for a walk down Main Street and some window shopping.

Leo: It is fun to go window shopping with you, Pru. We have very similar taste. Those pastries sure looked yummy.
Pru: I have a feeling neither of us can eat them. What with my easily upset tummy and your yeasty ears, I'm sure we'd be a mess even after one bite. Though they did look extremely drool worthy.
Leo: Yes, yes I know. I am allergic to everything (sigh). I do enjoy a big plate of steamed broccoli though.
Pru: Ew! Green things! Blech. Only chicken for me please. One of our favorite places to stop for a rest is by this statue.

It's important to Leo and I because the clothes we wear come from the love our mothers have for us. They want us to be warm when it's chilly and cute to boot.
Leo: My mom wanted to make clothes that are warm and sensible. We want all pups to be warm and comfy. I'm from down south (from a kill shelter, a sad story for another time) and I get cold easily.
Pru: After opening The Smiling Frog Pets, we are now sharing that love with all the other fur children that wear the clothes and play with the toys. A Little Help

Felted pets and beds

I had a little obsession with felt animals a while ago and the really clever people creating dopplegangers, pet toys and kiddies toys. I came across the felt cat bed the other day from Fuzzplay which looks very versatile. It could be a bed, a cave, a basket or even a rocking chair for your cat? It also looks like you could fold it up and put it away.

So, couldn't resist sharing some more felted animals and also this really cute mouse from Fadeeva Her site is full of the cutest little critters. I love these things that make me smile.

Check out etsy seller Two Left Hands She has gnomes, fairies and all sorts with the prettiest intricate details. Most pieces are between 2 and 4 inches tall.
