Fuzzy felt, Doppleganger and Splat!

The name Ben McFuzzy Lugs was what first attacted me to this Etsy shop and then it was my addiction to fuzzy felt dopplegangers. But then I found these bookmarks, or 'splats' - another way to have a replica of your furry little one! So, the lady behind these 'splats' obviously has a great sense of humour but she also uses upcycled fleece or nuno and creates them from a photograph of your pet. They're the perfect size for a paperback and so cute with only it's body sandwiched between the pages of the book.

I have a really big urge to make some of these buttons. I think it probably needs a special machine to do it, but they look so much fun and such a great way to get creative! I found these on a number of etsy shops and picked out the pet ones, but there are oodles of great designs, especially some of the earrings, that have really unique styles.

Your pet in paper and card

Today I'm featuring the work of UK artist Helen Mussel White and her use of papers and card.
On her website she has many pieces including bunnies, foxes, field mice and butterflies - but of course I have just picked out the doggie ones.
Because of the hand cutting, folding and scoring of a wide range of papers and card, each piece is totally different. They are created by building scenes in box frames which are often complex and consist of many layers. Now as most of them are custom orders, I'm sure you could probably get your pet sat in a favourite place. What a great way to remember them don't you think!

Clay Wood and Cotton, started by Kristen and Kristy, is a place to find unique handmade items for your home. Their aim is to to feature artists that create beautiful pieces that are also useful. These lovely placemats and napkins are from Kristen at Cakehouse  who has given new life to some vintage fabric and transformed it using her 1965 sewing machine. With the addition of a handprinted original design in water-based ink they are really exclusive. All are double layered and machine washable! Not sure if the cats and dogs are images from their pets, but can I can hear the sound of the sewing machine chugging along - fantastic!

This full size dog is from Olivera. The greatest thing is, you can send in your own fabric for a custom dog!

Love the simple illustrations on these dog mugs from Illustrated Living Just couldn't find out who created them- perhaps you could let me know if you've seen them before. Illustrated Living offer a gift wrapping service too, this includes quality gift wrapping paper of your choice, a gift tag with your message plus contrasting tissue paper. Nice! They're made from fine bone china and are dishwasher safe.

Our pet obsession

Our pets, and we love 'em, make their way into every aspect of our lives! They become a magnet for our unconditional love, and they love us back with total transparency. Suddenly, you notice that everything you own carries their image in some form. The stuff I've featured today could all be part of a pet lover's picnic, I just need to find the cheese!

Wine labels are now far more interesting in a wine store than the wine themselves and the Australian Teusner  Vineyard in the Barossa valley decided to create a cat label for their 2008 Shiraz to pop out on the shelves.

Found these on Dieline and the design is by Alexis Killam for a speciality pet bakery (unfortunately, couldn't find out who for) who cook up recipes in the store and then sell in these great packages! Love the names, so much like home for me!

Donna Wilson - cats and dogs

Our office, when we lived in London, was close to Tottenham Court Road, home to two of my favourite stores Heals and Paperchase. I spent many a lunch break mooching around them and getting last minute gifts - both stores are so great for that! So yesterday, when I was sniffing around a bit I was thrilled to bits to find on Print and Pattern that both stores had featured a great designer Donna Wilson. Heals is celebrating their bi-centenary and Donna has come up with a special Heals cat, inspired by their 1920's mascot, whilst Paperchase will be featuring her dolls and ceramics. Make sure you check out Donnas site and blog, they're great!

Cute little Hawk

I'm not sure how I discovered these the other day, but they were instantly destined to become a feature on Under the Blanket. I seem to have shown a lot of plushies just lately, but this one of Hawk the surburban dog is extra cute. Not only does he look cute, but he is also an adventurous character from Marnie Volenhalls series of illustrations. Marnie's paintings and prints reflect the behavior of this little dog who apparently 'is very smart and friendly with other creatures that cross his path....and other dogs'

      If you visit Marnie's blog you will see reams of great illustrations, but I loved this one titled 'My Mouse House' - Hawk visits the mouse daily to get the news :)

Why not put your pet on your cake!

It's right smack in the middle of wedding season...I think. I was married in month of April in London, it was cold and drizzly but normal folk who usually want a nice warm day for the big event would probably pick round about now. We tried to avoid having any plastic replicas of us and went for a flower, but if I'd have known you could get wooden replicas would definitely have gone for it! Preserving yourselves in wood that doesn't age - sounds good to me! So, if you're needing a wedding cake topper that includes your fur baby you'll find a huge selection on etsy. This first pair and their dog are from Dandelion Land handpainted and so pretty, but I also think they would be cute to display at the head table, or the card seating table.

 The next couple of guys make me smile and are from Peanut Butter Bandit The dolls measure approx 3 1/2" high. Pets measure approx 1 1/2"-2" high. Sealed with 2 coats of non toxic, non yellowing, glossy sealer.

Couldn't resist Naked Peggies again all handpainted with non-toxic paints, but so sweet looking! Just adore them!

                               
Ur a Star House created these that are a little different, but could be a great reflection of you and the other half. They take a bout 4 weeks so hurry!
